Message from Toni...
I've been hearing you this past month! You are talking
about MRSA
and the twenty-two schools that were closed in Washington. One woman in
Utah is preparing an entire course for mothers based on the book, "What To Do
When Antibiotics Don't Work." She
told me this book is very important to her well-being. She shows it to
people she
meets and tells them about the phyto-aromatherapy formulas. Some say,
"Oh, I remember those people when they lived here. I've got
that book somewhere. I'd
better read it again." So, yes, one person can make a huge difference.
In your circle of influence, I hope you will be that one.
Please... be that one.
Now, in case you didn't already know this, Utah is where I lived for
many years. It is considered to be the "be prepared" state.
The state government is not the reason for the prepardness,
it's
the committment of individuals who learn about ways to stay healthy and
alive when disasters strike.
When emergencies come...you don't expect your state to take care of
you, right? Keep you healthy? Give you food and water?
Medicines? There will never
be enough to go around if state after state is on an "urgent need"
statis. No state is
truly equipped to handle the masses.... disease outbreaks, flooding,
crop failures. I think we all remember New Orleans just a few
years ago. A close friend, Jennifer Abrahams-White, just spent a week
there with the dream of moving back where she was born. She recently
told me the air quality is so unsafe, she would never go back. The mold
growth in New Orleans makes it not a wise choice for her at this time.
My
good friend and acclaimed aromatherapist, Cecilia Salvesen told me just
last week, that in her opinion at least, it isn't IF the avian flu is
coming, it's only WHEN. And... if it keeps mutating will the
medicines
work? Cecilia told me that essential oils will be more valuable than
ever to have on hand. I believe this. And, you will see
legalities try and prevent them from being 'over the counter' very
shortly.
Maybe it's time for you to think about your own level of prepardness. I
know my heart and mind have spent a lot of time pondering my own future
and how I'm going to equip myself for what appears to be some
years of great change in the way I live. Do you know how you are
going to navigate through whatever comes your way?
For me, part of my preperation will include living in a small rural
community away from large cities I'll maintain the growing of my own
vegetables and herbs, and I'll continue to make my own wheat bread.
I'll continue to dehydrate...especially apples, which are always
comfort food to me. I'll stick with my vegetarian diet. I'll
continue to rely on my
essential oils and herbals to keep my immune system strong.
Oh,
and most importantly... I will not allow myself to be in the emotion of
fear. I
believe to stay away from the emotions of panic and fear is
most
important. So, my life is not
going
to change very much except for my physical location.
I'll
keep ya'll posted on that. Looks like I'd heading towards North
Carolina.
I hope you enjoy reading the interview with my eldest son
Sean, about MRSA.
I certainly enjoyed talking with him. Sean, who is an RN, works with a
specialized open heart surgery team in St. George, UT. I
trust what Sean tells me. He
is steady and not given to drama. Lots of common sense...a good head on
his handsome shoulders
with a funny sense of humor.

you make people think they are thinking, they will love you.
But,
if you really make them think... you might get a different reaction."

MRSA Interview With Sean
Toni:
"Hey."
Sean: "Hey back."
Toni: "You already know what I want to
talk about... MRSA. What is it?"
Sean:
"Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus.... (MRSA). It
is a
bacterial infection that is resistant to certain anti-biotics.
Methicillin would be one of the treatments for a staph infection.
MRSA is resistant to methicillin, as well as other common
antibiotics."
Toni: "How is MRSA contracted?"
Sean:
"It is contracted generally in one of two ways. More commonly
in the
health care environment ie: hospital. Such infections are
termed nosocomial....meaning any infection you receive while in the
hospital. The second way, and less common, is community aquired.
Such as in schools, jail, work place, and social
locations
where clothing is limited." (Sean is now laughing.)
"A hospital acquired MRSA infection can be aquired in a
surgical
setting or during any invasive procedure such a catheters, or wound
dressing changes."
"In a community setting MRSA infections typically involve the
skin
and can present as pustules or boils. They can be red and painful and
have drainage. MRSA can enter the skin through areas that contain an
injury or areas of the body that are covered in hair."
"This said. Regardless of which area a
MRSA is acquired, it is
transfered by skin to skin contact. You have a carrier and
you
have a recipient."
Toni: "How do we avoid a MRSA infection?"
Sean: "Regardless
of the setting. If simple, but consistent
hygien practices are followed, the likelyhood of getting a MRSA
infection are greatly reduced. Just remember the five C's when
considering risk facors for MRSA infection:
Crowding - in close contact with
others
Contact- skin to skin
Compromised - cuts or abrasions
Contaminated Items - (hospital
setting must be clean- school, desk tops and drinking fountains should
be clean)
Lack of Cleanliness - mostly
found in public bathrooms and other public
places.
"Anytime you are in close contact with other people,
you are more likely
to get whatever germs or diseases are available. This applies
to flu, and all other
types of community acquired diseases... not just MRSA."
"In a community acquired
MRSA, if you have a strong immune system, you
may not even require an antibiotic. In a hospital setting,
it can be
more dangerous because you would already be in the hospital and have a
reason for being there...whatever you are being treated for. You would
be more vunerable to infection."
"The issue is that most people don't know if they have
MRSA in a
community setting. So, it is very important for the public
to have
a standard practice of good hygiene. I can't stress this enough."
"The facts are that in 2007-
CDC Survelance 32% of the US population have
staph aureous. Only 2.3 million or 8% have the MRSA virus.
Approximately
19,000 people will die from MRSA each year. Keep a check on www.cdc.gov
for more
information on this and other comminicable diseases. It is the law that
they have to be reported."
Toni: "Is there any reason to believe this number of MRSA
cases will rise?"
Sean: "I don't know how you would project that.
I don't
know. The majority of MRSA is found in hospitals.
It's not
a new thing. I've been hearing about MRSA ever since I've
been in
nursing and that's been a long time."
"Just remember, normal bacteria is a part of your body's
defense. It's
a good
idea to only use antibiotics judically. Every time you get a
cough or runny nose, you don't need an antibiotic. The body's immune
system should take care of that. You don't want to become
resistent to an antibiotic if you should ever really need one."
Toni: "Thanks,
Sean."
Sean: "
No problem, Mom. Talk to you soon."

AND
THIS NEWS
IS FROM THE BBC.....
AROMATHERAPY
OILS KILL SUPERBUGS
Tuesday, 21
December, 2004, BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation)
Essential oils could kill the deadly MRSA hospital
'superbug', scientists have claimed.
University of Manchester researchers found three of the oils,
usually used in aromatherapy, destroyed MRSA and E.coli bacteria in two
minutes.
They suggest the oils could be blended into soaps and
shampoos which could be used in hospitals to stop the spread of the
superbug.
Hospital-acquired infections, such as MRSA, kill an estimated 5,000 a
year in
the UK.
The Manchester study was triggered when complementary
medicine specialists at Christie Cancer Hospital asked university
researchers to
test essential oils.
Dr. Peter Warn, who carried out the research, said: "When I
tested the oils in the lab, absolutely nothing grew. Rather than
stimulating
bacteria and fungi, the oils killed them off."
The essential oils tested were Patchouli,
Tea Tree, Geranium,
Lavender essential oils and grapefruit seed
extract.
The team tested 40 essential oils against 10 of the most
infectious agents found in hospitals, including MRSA
(methicillin-resistant
staphylococcus aureus).
Two of the oils were found to kill MRSA and E.coli almost
instantly, while a third was found to act over a longer period of time.
Dr Warn says the essential oils could be used to create much
more pleasant inhalation therapies - which he said were likely to have
a
much higher success rate than the current treatment, which is only
effective in around 50% of cases."
Dr Warn said: "We believe that our discovery could
revolutionise the fight to combat MRSA and other superbugs."

Private Labeling for YOUR essential oil bottles
Inexpensive and Smart
If
you have considered personalizing your essential oils with your own
logo or name, 2007 is the time to move forward with the idea. Last
year, I purchased a wonderful new full color
professional label
printer. It uses a special plastic peel
off label that
is
high gloss and stain resistent, even from essential oils.
I began using these labels during the latter part of November and all
of December. I am so happy with them in every way. Any image
you
would like will come across beautifully, even a picture.
I have been working with a limited amount of
private
labeling
for some years, but with the addition of this new equipment, I am able
to update my old customers to a new, smart, more professional, and
accept additional
private label orders, too..
